Personalized Learning
Learning is a very personal and unique experience for everyone. No two kids are the same and expecting them to learn the same thing at the same pace is incorrect. Therefore, at Lakewood, we don’t teach classes, we teach individuals. We do not use the traditional approach where the teacher teaches a set curriculum and kids are forced to learn in a particular manner. Our personalized learning plans are customized as per the child’s interests and abilities. Our focus is to engage kids in a positive manner so as to keep their natural curiosity alive and make the process of learning fun and productive. This ensures that kids thoroughly understand the concepts rather than just rote learning in order to progress from one class to another.
Engaging Classrooms
At Lakewood, we treasure the many ways children explore their worlds and express themselves. We believe in the philosophy that children have a hundred languages of learning and use art, language, physicality, experimentation, relationships and many other forms of communication to express themselves.
A child’s environment is also their teacher. A child learns just as much from the environment they are in as they do from their parents and teachers. Providing a creative, nurturing environment for a child to play and learn increases the amount of knowledge they take in. Hence our classrooms are designed aesthetically and are filled with natural, colourful and useful materials – from musical instruments to craft supplies. They are thoughtfully incorporated to encourage creativity, problem-solving work, experimentation, exploration and open-ended play.
Reggio Inspired Philosopy
Our curriculum is based on the Reggio Emilia philosophy developed by the renowned Pedagogist Loris Malaguzzi from Italy. It is a student centred and self-guided curriculum which uses self-directed and experiential learning in relationship driven environments. The Reggio Emilia approach empowers children to have control over the direction of their learning and provides them endless ways and opportunities to express themselves. Here the teacher is considered a co learner and a collaborator with the child and not just an instructor. Our teachers provide children different avenues for thinking, constructing, negotiating their thoughts and feelings.
Qualified Teachers
At Lakewood, we take great pride in the exceptional quality of our teaching staff. We look out for loving teachers who have a passion for learning and an ability to teach, supported by professional qualifications and experience. Each and every teacher is selected through a rigorous recruitment process. Our teachers also undergo extensive trainings specifically designed by our academic team so that they can effectively deliver our curriculum with personalized attention to each child in the classroom. They play a dual role in the Reggio Emilia classroom. Their primary role is to learn alongside children, becoming involved in group learning experiences as a guide and resource. They carefully observe and track the growth of each child and design their lesson plans accordingly.
Health & Safety
Our aim is to provide an environment where each child feels safe, secure and comfortable to explore, discover, challenge and understand their physical worlds without fear. Children’s health and safety is of utmost importance to us. Our safety policy includes the following:
